" Human beings will perform for the person they love. If a person loves himself, he will do it for himself. If he does not have the high self-esteem or belief in himself, he will have to do it for someone else until the time comes that he does love himself."
- Jim Fay & David Funk
Welcome to my online portfolio. This website is a compilation of my personal philosophy of teaching and the projects and artifacts that showcase those beliefs. Each item featured in this website reflects who I am and what I believe as a teacher. Hopefully this website gives you direction into my development and insights as an educator.
As you will see in the examples I give throughout my portfolio, one of my main themes and personal beliefs I have as an educator is to teach with compassion by helping each student develop into the person they ultimately want to become. In doing so, it is my job to listen to each and every one of them, and create a trusting learning environment for all of my students. I believe, as an educator, it is my job to use English to broaden students' horizons and do this by using their classmates' perspectives to help each student to ultimately gain new perspectives. This is one of the ways trust and respect can be built upon in the classroom. I believe, by using discussion, I can create a safe environment and a welcoming atmosphere. Ultimately, when students leave my classroom, I want them to feel as though they are secure in who they are and what they believe.
Part of the reason I became a teacher, was to hopefully be that one person or that one adult who tells each student they matter. Too often students are belittled and seen as simply a number. I believe students are more than a number, and I believe they deserve to be heard, valued, and seen as important no matter what. If one person can push a student to achieve greatness, I hope I'm at least the one person they look back on and can say did push them to achieve and exceed their goals.
Enjoy!
