"Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself" - John Dewey
The following links I have provided are a compilation and reflection of the core beliefs I have on teaching. In order to challenge students to think outside of the box, it is imperative that we as teachers design lessons to promote critical, creative, and ethical thinking, while at the same time, giving students the best and most fitting learning opportunity in order to engage them in the English classroom.
Middle School Unit for Chinese Cinderella:
This unit was designed during my first year in the English Education Cohort with a group of two other colleagues. This unit was designed to explore identity through culture and experience. This unit reflects my belief on teaching a unit based on supporting diversity and appreciating one's own identity.

High School Unit on Persepolis:
This unit was also created during my first year in the English Education Cohort with a group of two other colleagues. Based on the graphic novel, this supports my belief on students being able to understand culture, justice, perspective, and the evolution of change throughout society.

Research Project on Graphic Novels and The Struggling Reader:
This Popplet is a reflection of a long-term study I conducted when studying a certain idea of linguistics. I interviewed a girl from Lux Middle School who was considered a struggling reader. After she expressed her interest in being able to view pictures, rather than words, I decided to base my research on why graphic novels could be used as a substitute for struggling readers. This study reflects on my belief of reaching out to every student and investing them in reading and writing.

Ethnography Paper on Motivating Students:
This study was conducted by my practicum partner and me. We wanted to reveal and uncover factors that influenced student engagement and motivation in the classroom. This reflects my belief on growing as a professional by showing how we as teachers must constantly be studying and researching to find out what truly interests our students in learning.

Six Word Story Lesson:
During my student teaching, I created a lesson based on six word memoirs. In one of Ernest Hemingway's most famous pieces, he writes: "For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn." Just from those six words, we can infer an entire story. I decided to use the six word story lesson, to have students tell their own stories through six words. These six words could reflect on a situation that was funny, sad, scary, nerve-wracking, etc., but they were their own stories. This lesson reflects on my belief of creating a structured learning environment in the classroom by having students share out situations they've been through in the past, while gaining their classmates' respect, care, and trust.

Annotated Bibliographies and Leadership Text Logs:
As I mentioned in my section on growing as professionals, it is imperative that we are continually growing in our education as teachers. We must always be willing to continue or growth as learners. In the links below, the first is six different annotated bibliographies on various different educational research topics. The following link, is a leadership text log on two texts I've read to further and reflect on my growth as an educator.

Individualized Instruction Thought Experiment:
Too often, students are required to write some form of expository essay to pass a class. In my class, I would like to incorporate a Multi-genre project in order to give students freedom with what and how they write, but to also evaluate their writing skills. Here is a project I would like to someday include in my future classroom:
